SHELBY AMERICAN SAYS SOMETHING SPECIAL IS COMING ON DECEMBER 15

Are We About To See Another Super Snake?

A cryptic teaser from Shelby American indicates the legendary brand has something new to show us come December 15. The brand’s post on Facebook shows an S550 Ford Mustang tightly under wraps, yet many theorists on the internet think the announcement may have nothing to do with the pony car.

Beneath a profile shot of the contemporary Mustang cloaked by a form-fitting white cover, the Las Vegas-based Shelby wrote “December 15, 2021 . . . something special will be unveiled.”

Yep. That’s it.

Shelby American Ford Mustang Teaser: What Could It Be?

Now, the simple answer is that we’re going to see some kind of newly modified Mustang from Shelby American. After all, the Mustang is arguably what put Carroll Shelby on the map, even though his eponymous company was highly successful in building and racing Shelby Cobras, before contributing to the original Ford GT40 Le Mans program.

But what kind of Mustang could it be? There are several quality answers bandying about. With the recent death of the GT350, maybe it’s some kind of homage from Shelby American, or perhaps it’s a fully cranked version of the Shelby GT500. Who’s up for a second coming of the GT500KR? Maybe, but the Mustang in the post doesn’t seem to have any additional hood bulges or fender flaring.

There is an exotic theory that Shelby could be preparing to show off a fully electric version of the Mustang using Ford Eluminator crate motors. This tenuous theory seems to consider the Shelby customized Mach-E from SEMA as proof the company is working on a proper Mustang EV.

Now, the best theory of them all claims Shelby’s upcoming announcement won’t have anything to do with the Mustang whatsoever, and the teaser image is a placeholder. Considering that Shelby American sells more trucks than Mustangs these days, it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

This theory purports the Mustang pictured is simply a decoy for Shelby’s imminent announcement of a high-performance Bronco offering. After all, December 15th is the official on-sale date for the 2022 Bronco. Surely, a high-performance Shelby Bronco program would appeal to a subset of shoppers not interested in waiting for the Bronco Raptor’s official on-sale date, scheduled for the summer of 2022.
