Off-road oriented pickup trucks have become a force in the auto industry over the last few years, with offerings currently available from all of the Detroit Three automakers. While we love these machines made for when there is no road, automakers have seemingly abandoned the once beloved street truck segment. Names like the Ford F-150 Lighting and Ram SRT-10 muscle trucks once represented some of the coolest and seemingly ridiculous models on sale from their respective companies, but they no longer exist today. That is where Shelby American comes in with their Shelby Super Snake Sport F-150 concept debuting at the 2019 SEMA Show.
The two-door Shelby Super Snake Sport F-150 is an old school street truck through and through, with a GT500-rivaling 755-horsepower on tap courtesy of its own supercharged V8 engine. That figure represents a bump of five horsepower over the limited-run Super Snake truck produced in 2017. Perhaps more importantly, the Shelby Super Snake Sport F-150 has over 300 more horsepower than the Ford F-150 Raptor, the most powerful version of the truck Ford will sell you.
The Shelby Super Snake Sport Ford F-150 sits low to the ground courtesy of a modified coilover suspension system, helping to cement its sporty appearance. A set of 22-inch Carroll Shelby aluminum wheels wrapped in performance tires hide an upgraded six-piston front brake system, further highlighting the truck’s performance capabilities. A Shelby by Borla exhaust system is sure to help the sport truck sound like the powerful two-door machine that it is.
A build like this wouldn’t be complete without some visual modifications, like this mean looking Shelby body kit. The Ford F-150 is transformed with custom rocker panels and a unique hood, as well as a new front bumper and grill package. This street truck concept is even fit with a front splitter, because race truck. Out back the F-150 is fit with tonneau cover and a Shelby bedrug liner to help clean up the appearance of the truck, while traditional Shelby stripes and badges round out the visual changes.
While there is no doubt that we love all of the off-road ready trucks that are available on the market today, there is something special about a two-door sport truck with unruly amounts of horsepower. While Ford continues to keep the Lightning F-Series truck out of production, we are glad to know that Shelby American still embraces the idea of a sporty F-150 for the streets.
