Today, GM unveiled the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2, bringing about the brand’s flagship heavy-duty off-roader. But that’s not all! Also part of the announcement was the official reveal of something even more off-road capable: the Silverado HD ZR2 Bison. Normally, the world would have to wait another year before a ZR2 Bison, built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles, was revealed.
What Is The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 Bison?
Elevating the platform’s off-road credentials to even further heights, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 Bison features a suite of AEV hardware to provide a factory package for the most avid off-roaders. It builds on the HD ZR2’s standard features, adding the following:
- Exclusive gloss black 18-inch AEV wheels
- Distinctive cut AEV high-approach, stamped-steel front bumper with integrated recovery points and winch provisions
- Unique AEV stamped-steel cut rear bumper with recovery points
- Tough, AEV stamped steel underbody skid plates for the front of the vehicle, steering rack, exhaust, and transfer case
Bison models also receive unique exterior branding and other identifying cues, including the AEV logo on the front-seat head restraints. Offered exclusively in the 2500 Crew Cab configuration – with the standard 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine or available 6.6L Duramax L5P Turbo-Diesel, just like the standard truck. But also like the standard Silverado HD ZR2, there’s no front locking differential, leaving its off-road supremacy challenged by the Ram HD Power Wagon. And by the way, AEV will do incredible things to a Ram HD, too.
As for capability, the max payload for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 is 3,398 pounds with the L8T gas engine. But when equipped with the available L5P Duramax, the max trailering rating improves to 18,500 pounds. So yes, tow that trailer full of toys to the trailhead.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison production begins later this summer at the General Motors Flint Assembly plant in Michigan. Unfortunately, pricing isn’t yet available, but it should be announced closer to the start of production.
