THIS CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 1LE WAGON RIDES ON BAGS, CAN HAUL THE FAMILY

Complete With Box Flares, This Rendering Takes Things To Another Level

CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 WAGON ON BAGS RENDERING VIDEO

The station wagon has had an interesting story here in the United States. Once seen as the quintessential family hauler, these long-roof sedans no longer carry much favor with American buyers. Whether that be a result of the fuel crisis of the 1970s, the introduction of the minivan in the 1980s, or the explosion of SUV sales in the 1990s, these vehicles have exited U.S. automaker’s portfolios. That isn’t to say that wagons aren’t still loved by a select few, as Europe continues to crank out some seriously potent offerings. And we now have a chance to see what it could look like if GM re-entered the hot wagon segment, hypothetically. This is the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Wagon, brought to us from Facebook user Rostislav Prokop.

Well to be more specific, this is a rendering of a Camaro ZL1 1LE wagon. As with many of these renderings, this is somewhat of a mashup between two existing products. The current generation Audi RS6 Avant serves as the basis for this rendering, a proper starting point for this home-brew Chevrolet Camaro design. We’ve previously seen artists utilize the RS4 Avant to make a Camaro wagon, so this is a logical starting place. The German wagon has adopted the front clip and hood from the track-ready muscle car, which looks rather presentable on the Audi. It hasn’t taken the suspension from the ZL1 however, as it is clear that this rendering has opted to use air suspension. Not exactly the choice you’d expect for a machine as focused as a 1LE model.

Moving down the side of the car, it is clear that the designer wanted to keep some of the European look of the RS6. The wheels are right off of the Audi, as are the brakes. They’ve even fit the car with some massive box flares, which look like they’d be right at home on a Audi Quattro S1 rally car. These flares combined with the Camaro’s squared-off tail don’t really seem to work cohesively in this design exercise. It makes one wonder how much better this car could look with a bit more restraint.

The designer definitely got the noise right however, as it is clear this thing has the heart of a sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. There is no mistaking the sound of the 6.2L supercharged LT4 V8 engine and all of its 650 horsepower looped in the video. It may not be much more powerful than the twin-turbo V8 that powers the RS6 from the factory, but the wagon wouldn’t be right without the LT4.

While it may not be a perfect design, this sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE wagon makes one yearn for GM to make it happen. Let us know what you think of this design below, and if there is anything you’d like to see different.

  1. The rear fenders just need to be modified to where they exit. I’d take the rear drive in this compared to AWD and this wagon would be at least 1,000 lb more lighter than the 5,200 lb Audi RS6.
