Those interested in the PHEV Wrangler should note that the 4xe option will only be offered on four-door Sahara and Rubicon models to start. For the Wrangler 4xe Sahara, you’re looking at $47,995 plus $1,495 destination, for a total just shy of $50,000. Jumping to the Wrangler 4xe Rubicon, you’ll be looking at a total cost of $53,190. All 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe models are expected to receive the $7,500 EV tax credit.

Just to refresh your memory– the plug-in-hybrid Wrangler 4xe combines Jeep’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with two integrated electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack, and FCA’s TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined output from the arrangement is 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe can go up to 25 miles on electric power alone, and on paper, it can achieve 50 mpg-e in combined usage.

Jeep has also said drivers can tailor the behavior of the hybrid powertrain to best suit each trip. Be that pure-electric daily commuting, or being able to take in the sounds of nature during silent off-road exploration.

Although it appears the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe drivetrain commands a hefty premium over conventionally propelled JL Wranglers, the initial Launch Edition Sahara and Rubicon trims do include additional content.

As standard, the Launch Edition Sahara 4xe includes leather seating, 20-inch wheels, Uconnect 8.4 with navigation, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system with subwoofer, and a 552-watt amplifier. Also included is the LED lighting package, and Selec-Trac 4WD with Dana 44 HD axles.

The Launch Edition Rubicon Jeep Wrangler 4xe gets similar kit with Uconnect 8.4, the same Alpine audio system, and the LED lighting package, but bumps up the capability with Jeep’s 4:1 Rock-Trac Heavy-Duty Full-Time 4WD System.

Already, assembly of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is underway at FCA’s Toledo Assembly Complex in Toledo, Ohio. Look for the first PHEV Jeep to start arriving at dealers in the first quarter of 2021, just ahead of the 2021 Ford Bronco.
