2022 FORD GT DRAG RACES 2023 CORVETTE Z06

The Results May Surprise You

Ford GT vs Corvette Z06

The 2023 Corvette Z06 is a spectacular car that took inspiration from a Ferrari for its creation. It comes as a reasonably affordable supercar that can easily handle the road and provide plenty of thrill on a race track. Meanwhile, the 2022 Ford GT also falls into the supercar category, though at the very, very top end before we start talking about hypercars. The design and lightweight materials make it a complete thrill to drive and look at. However, how does it fare against the C8 Corvette Z06, which costs significantly less?

Corvette Z06 vs. Ford GT: Details

Throttle House decided to pursue this question by taking both cars to a race track to compare them. The video posted to their YouTube channel is worth a complete play-through, but for the sake of simplicity, we’ll focus on the drag race. Starting with the numbers. Both the Corvette Z06 and Ford GT are mid-engine vehicles. Power-wise, the C8 Z06 has a bit more power with 670 horsepower. Meanwhile, the Ford GT has 660 ponies. However, the two differ significantly within the torque department, with the Z06 having 460 lb-ft and the GT has 550 lb-ft. Of course, the engines differ as the Corvette features a 5.5L naturally aspirated flat-plane crank V8, while the Ford has a 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 with a conventional crossplane crank.

Ford GT vs Corvette Z06

Though the engine may be smaller, the output is very similar. The fundamental difference between the two in the drag race will be the dry weight, with the Corvette Z06 weighing 3,434 lbs and the Ford GT weighing just 3,014 lbs. The Ford GT is part of the Carbon Series, and it’s certainly a pretty face to look at. But looks aren’t everything, and after taking off the line, we’ll see how the $164,505 Corvette compares to the $660,845 Ford GT.

The first race starts from a standstill, and the Corvette is quicker off the line than the Ford GT. However, at the end of the race, the GT passes the Z06 at the top end. Meanwhile, the second race features a rolling start, and the difference is a bit more significant, with the GT again taking the win, with a slightly larger gap between the cars. But it’s still quite impressive that the Corvette Z06 can finish so close behind the Ford GT despite the lower price tag and higher weight.

The rest of the video discusses the cars individually and how they’re refined when going around the track. Providing viewers with the perfect opportunity to listen to the cars as they do a few laps. We highly recommend watching it if you have some free time.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
