AC Cars have just announced plans to launch a new entry for the Cobra GT roadster in spring 2023. The car will be the latest chapter for a model that shares a close history with the Shelby Cobra. This updated open-air muscle machine will take advantage of modern manufacturing methods while keeping the general styling similar to the original sports car from the 1960s. We imagine it to be nothing short of a thrill to drive.
AC Cars Cobra GT Roadster: Details
Power for the new AC Cobra GT roadster is expected to come from a V8 with a still-undisclosed displacement that could make up to 654 horsepower and 575 lb-ft of torque. That could enable the car to accelerate from 0-60 in just 3.6 seconds. Buyers can also choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic. Though there are yet to be any super revealing images of the car, we can see an outline with sensual curves and large wheels.
The new AC Cobra GT roadster will allegedly ride on an extruded aluminum chassis and carbon-composite body panels. This setup will reportedly keep the Cobra GT’s weight below 3,307 pounds. Meanwhile, the wheelbase is 101.2 inches, which the company says is the largest AC Cobra yet. The extra room will provide more space for the two occupants within the car.
Naturally, AC Cars plans to keep production of the new Cobra GT limited. The company intends to work with buyers to outfit the vehicle to suit their tastes better. Unlike one of the original vehicles, customers can opt for modern amenities like air conditioning, electric windows, and an infotainment system. There is even an option to equip the car with a removable hardtop.
AC Cars has decided to announce the Cobra GT’s full specs when unveiled in London in 2023. Pricing details will also arrive at that time. Unfortunately, the announcement doesn’t mention availability in North America, and it appears that the company is focusing on the UK and European markets.
