The current Chevrolet Silverado design isn’t a bad one. At worst, it’s been described as “busy” with its multiple creases and aero work. But at the end of the day, we like it. At least more than we like the current interior. But what could have been? This design sketch posted to the official General Motors Design Instagram page may be showing us what was in the works. Unearthed by GM-Trucks, we don’t think it’s a hint at future design, but likely a finalist proposal that didn’t quite make it.
We’ve covered renderings of different vehicles before, highlighting the completely improbable, the wonderfully wacky, the how does this work, and the we really want this to happen. Still, those are mainly from rendering artists not affiliated with any brand, which is totally fine. The General Motors Design Instagram posts sketches, designs and renderings from actual GM designers, and this one looks very probable.
Obviously, we have no way of knowing if this sketch actually does hint at a future truck. Yet, it doesn’t look all that outlandish, and we could totally see something like this becoming a reality for the next-gen Chevrolet Silverado. The sketch takes many of the current Silverado design cues, like the slender headlights that integrate with the grille, and refines them to an overall more pleasing design. The whole truck looks sharper and more edgy than the current one, but not too dissimilar. We imagine Volvo would be a little miffed at the Thor hammer light pattern, though.
But to our eyes, that grille appears to be completely filled in, and smaller than the current truck. The middle portion surrounding the Chevrolet bowtie looks like solid plastic, with some smaller vents flanking it on either side. With an electric Silverado coming in the not too distant future, this sketch could be our first glimpse at what that truck will look like.
Then again, this is all speculation. Whether this sketch hints at an electric or next-gen Chevrolet Silverado, or is simply a design, it looks fantastic.
