Corvette Grand Sport Duntov Continuation Car

Out of all of the people who have worked on developing the Chevrolet Corvette, none are more recognized than Zora Arkus-Duntov. Deemed the Father of the Corvette, Duntov was responsible for transforming the roadster into the sports car we all love today. As the Director of High Performance Vehicles, Duntov did this through expanding the racing program. The most famous of these cars is the 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, of which five were ever built. Now though, you have a chance to buy the first continuation model built by Duntov Motors.

Duntov Motors is based in Farmers Branch, Texas, just outside of Dallas. The company mostly works to maintain vintage Corvette racers and to produce high-quality performance parts, however they also build something rather special. Back in 2009, the company was given an exclusive licensing agreement with GM to build a run of continuation Corvette Grand Sport racing cars. Along with this agreement, Duntov Motors were also given the original blueprints and molds taken from the #2 Grand Sport, the only car from the production run that wasn’t crashed in its day.

What that means is that Duntov Motors can build you a brand new Corvette Grand Sport that looks identical to the original cars. This example being offered for sale by Worldwide Auctioneers wears VIN # 30837X100011, and is the first car built as a continuation model in 2011. Unlike the continuation models built by Aston Martin however, Duntov Motors does bring these cars to the modern era.

The Duntov Motors Grand Sports feature four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes, independent suspension at both ends with coil springs up front and leaf-springs in the rear, as well as a modern powertrain. When this car was initially built, it featured an 875 horsepower 460 cubic-inch racing motor, which has since been replaced with a more reasonable Gen V big-block V8. The new 427 cubic-inch V8 engine produces around 480 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a T-56 Super Magnum six-speed manual gearbox.

Perhaps the coolest thing about this Duntov Motors Corvette Grand Sport is the fact that it has been made street legal. This of course means that your race car driver fantasies won’t have to be limited to track days, which is always a good thing. We’re sure this one-of-a-kind Corvette won’t come cheap, but it has to be a lot cheaper than one of the genuine racers.
