The Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport is are exciting vehicles in their own right, but the party is just getting started in the Bronco family. Within the next few years, we will see some additional variants join the lineup, and one of the most exciting also happens to be the one we know the most about. That’s the 2022 Ford Bronco Warthog, and a new spy video by Bronco6G forum gives us our best look yet at the Warthog on the move, along with some exhaust sound.
If anyone was holding out hope for the 2022 Ford Bronco Warthog to have a V8, this video unfortunately crushes it. It’s clear from the exhaust sound that this is a V6, although which EcoBoost motor lies under the hood is unclear. Unlikely is a carryover 2.7 liter V6 from the regular Bronco, upgraded or not, as Ford will want to differentiate the Bronco Warthog from the lesser models. More probable is either the 3.0 liter EcoBoost V6 from the Ford Explorer ST. Whatever is under the hood, it make a pleasant and aggressive growl from the dual exhaust tips.
Other new observations from the spy video include an up close look underneath the SUV, specifically at the rear end. Here, we can see what appears to be live-valve shocks like those on the F-150 Raptor. It’s believed this is the Ford Bronco Warthog, and the Bronco Raptor will come later as a separate offering. The Warthog will focus more on all around off-roading, especially the technical stuff, while the Raptor will do the Baja driving the nameplate is known for.
Seeing what might be the Raptor’s shocks on the Warthog doesn’t dismiss those previous ideas, however, as they could be tuned completely differently here. They are an extremely capable suspension component, and it’s no surprise to see Ford spreading it across multiple vehicles with varying terrain specialties.
Otherwise, the video more or less confirms what we’ve seen in previous spy shots and teasers from Ford. That means a much wider track, a lift kit, massive 37 inch off-road tires. It also continues the trend of only seeing the Ford Bronco Warthog testing in four door guise, so there’s a good chance it won’t come in two door configuration. While a reveal date is too far ahead to be know, the Bronco Warthog is expected to come as a 2022 model year vehicle.
Low hanging rear shock mounts don’t suit an off-road car .
