FORD MUSTANG GT RESONATOR BYPASS BY MBRP IS A COST EFFECTIVE UPGRADE

Volume Up!

There’s nothing wrong with how the sixth-generation S550 Ford Mustang GT sounds. Especially with the active valved performance exhaust on the facelift model, the Coyote V8 has a great exhaust note. But muscle cars are supposed to shout about their performance, they’re the opposite of subtle. That’s why exhaust upgrades are so great, but with V8 muscle cars already expensive, it can be tough to justify the cost. MBRP seems to have fixed the problem with their new resonator bypass X-pipe for the 2015-2020 Mustang GT. It adds volume without breaking the bank, coming in at just $176.92.

As you can hear, the system certainly ups the volume for the V8 Mustang. Perhaps similar to how the upcoming Mustang Mach 1 will sound. A resonator is designed to quiet a car’s exhaust, specifically at low rpm. It’s most important for highway driving. But despite removing the part, the guys at MBRP have managed to boost the volume without a major increase in droning while cruising. Yes, it’s got more drone than stock, but that’s to be expected with any performance exhaust.

Another benefit to this MBRP component is the ease of install. It is a direct bolt on part, and all you need to do is take off the stock resonator and pop their X-pipe on. It’s also made from T409 stainless steel, which should help with durability.

For S550 Ford Mustang GT owners, this is a very compelling upgrade. The muffler bypass x-pipe’s great sound, ease of install and low cost make it a bit of an obvious choice. And if it’s too loud of you, no modifications were needed to install it, so you can put the resonator back on just as easily as you took it off. Owners can go in the opposite direction and get more volume too, as MBRP says you can add their Mustang GT axle-back street or race exhaust system at some point down the line.
