Owning a classic Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is a dream for most car enthusiasts. Unfortunately, they command a high price and are very rare, so owning one will simply remain a dream for many. But REC Watches has unveiled a new line of P-51 watches that give Mustang fans a way to not only own a piece of classic Shelby GT500, but one of the rarest experimental prototype Mustangs ever made.

The Mustangs in question are the only notchback GT500s ever made, nicknamed Little Red and Green Hornet. The pair wore the official title of Ford Mustang Shelby EXP500, for experimental GT500. Little Red was built first, and was commissioned by Carroll Shelby after his 1966 Le Mans win. Green Hornet was built a year later as a second development prototype for Shelby, which featured advanced for the time tech like fuel injection. Unfortunately, Little Red went missing about 50 years ago, and most experts believed it was lost or destroyed until it was found in Texas in 2018.

Barrett-Jackson restored the pair of special Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 notchbacks, and that’s where REC Watches comes into the picture. They were sent some of the old sheetmetal from the restoration, and are using to make the watches. They will be produces in extremely limited numbers, and each watch will be unique because of the distinct patina of each piece of sheetmetal. Both watch’s dials reference the classic Mustang GT500’s instrument cluster.

The REC P-51 Little Red unsurprisingly takes it’s inspiration from the long lost red EXP500. It’s got a red detail around the outside ring, in the same color of the Mustang. One side of the watch has a graphic stamped into the stainless steel that looks like the grille and grille lights, while the other side looks like the taillights. Even the crown looks like the center of the Mustang’s wheel. Only 318 will be made, priced from $1,695

The REC P-51 Green Hornet is even more rare, with only 282 slated for production at the same price. It’s got a green inner ring with contrasting orange hands, and just like the red model, the sides reference classic Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 design elements.

Both REC P-51 watches are available for order now, and buyers can even select their own serial number. Because these watches use real sheet metal from the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Little Red and Green Hornet, they are incredibly special and will probably sell out quickly as Mustang fans jump at the opportunity to own and wear a piece of history.
