HERTZ GT500H IS 900+ HORSEPOWER ON THE TIP OF YOUR TOES

Hertz and Ford are dropping a bombshell on holiday goers, by returning the name Shelby to its rental lot. History would suggest that the rental company would leverage the legacy of the Mustang Shelby GT350, as that was the legendary rental racer. But instead, retreated to the much more ridiculous and frighteningly sublime GT500.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500H: Details

This marks the first time that the ultra-high-performance model has been available to rent by the company. In addition, it’s also the most powerful car Hertz has ever offered.

The 5.2-liter Predator V8 will put 900+ horsepower right on the tip of your toe,  which is 140 more than the standard GT500 thanks to a Whipple supercharger and a Borla catback exhaust.

All that extra horsepower means a lot more heat, and the GT500H has a new carbon fiber hood with more vents to let it all escape. The hood is also 30-lbs less than the standard unit, which slightly helps with acceleration as if it needed it.

The super special Mustang rides upon 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with performance tires, and hurts and Shelby American logos are peppered around the vehicle to celebrate six decades of tire smoke.

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500H will be available for rent in 11 US states as part of the three-year Rent-A-Racer program. Just GT500H examples will be built: 19 in Shadow Black, and 6 in Oxford White to commemorate the Shelby brand’s 60th anniversary. After the stock GT500 Mustangs roll off the Ford Motor Company Flat Rock Assembly Plant line in Michigan, Shelby American will complete the cars at its assembly facility in Las Vegas. The mega muscle cars will also be recorded in the official Shelby American Registry.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H Also Available

If 900 horsepower is too much for you and your insurance company to handle, Hertz will also offer the Mustang Shelby GT-H in both coupe and convertible guise, which is based around a Mustang GT and features just 450 horsepower. Excited renters will be able to choose more colors also, such as Rapid Red Metallic, Oxford White, Carbonized Gray, and Shadow Black, all with Gold Shelby stripes.
