SHELBY AMERICAN DEBUTS 1,300 HP MUSTANG GT500 CODE RED AT WOODWARD

While the Woodward Dream Cruise is largely known as the world’s biggest car meet, both automakers and aftermarket companies alike took the time to debut big news all week. We’ve spent no shortage of time covering all of the big debuts from Dodge (Hornet, Charger, Challenger and all-electric Banshee), but that’s not all. Shelby American pulled the wraps off of Code Red: the ultimate S550 Mustang GT500. And we have exclusive photos.

Shelby GT500 Code Red: Details

Shelby American wanted to produce a Code Red Mustang back in 2008, but it ultimately never happened for a number of reasons. Ultimately, Shelby claims that the durability of the S550 Mustang GT500 platform can handle this wild suite of upgrades that blows the doors off anything the performance shop has ever done.

Based on the S550 Ford Shelby GT500, the new Code Red takes the 5.2L Predator engine now features new high-performance components that give the Code Red 1,000+ horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque on 93 octane pump gas, and with up to 1,300 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft of torque on E85 Ethanol. Wild.

The Shelby American Ford Mustang GT500 Code Red also features a widebody package with new wheels, tires, axles, suspension tuning, interior, badges, carbon fiber hood, and more. In addition, each Code Red GT500 includes membership in Team Shelby, the worldwide club Carroll Shelby established in 2008 and will be documented in the official Shelby Registry. The package MSRP starts at $209,995, not including the base car.

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red goes beyond even that of the 825 hp Shelby Super Snake and 900 hp Shelby GT500 KR. This also means they will be insanely exclusive. Only 10 will be built per model year. And with the new S650 Mustang coming in September, that likely means only 10 will ever make it off the Shelby factory floor.
