The muscle car segment has always be set on delivering a simple, noble mission: the most power, for the money, all of the time. And while Dodge, Ford and Chevy do a fine job at offering incredible power from the factory (admittedly some better than others), the aftermarket continues to take things further. We’ve seen many modified Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 coupes, but this one is a bit special. It’s a Shelby Signature Edition GT500 that has received a CX1100R upgrade package from Palm Beach Dyno. All told: the car has almost 1,000 horsepower.

The Shelby GT500 already boasts some impressive power numbers, and with all of its other components, it’s a capable track vehicle. But with the added modifications, this one has some crazy power under the hood. Luckily it has been taken to a dyno to get accurate measurements. The all-black Shelby GT500 already has an aggressive personality, enhanced when the massive V8 engine is ignited. We recommend turning the volume down a bit when you watch the video if you’re wearing headphones. For its first run, the 2020 Signature Edition GT500 goes up to 876 horsepower and 644 lb-ft of torque while running on 93-octane.
Palm Beach Dyno switching the fuel type to E85 provides a significant power boost for the muscle car, as the readings get bumped up to 991 horsepower and 692 lb-ft of torque. In fourth gear, the speedometer tops out at around 170 mph. These previous runs feature a 2.7″ pulley, but by bumping that to the 2.27″ pulley, the car then makes a staggering 1,070 horsepower and 782 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 Shelby GT500 now makes more power than a Tesla Model S Plaid, but even so, it would likely still have a run for its money going against the electric car on a drag strip.
