1500 HP CHEVY SILVERADO TAKES ON A TESLA MODEL S PLAID

Is This Souped Up Chevy Enough To Dethrone The EV?

The Hoonigan youtube channel has some pretty fantastic drag races that can get automotive enthusiasts sitting on the edge of their seats. The latest of these drag races pits a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 1,500 horsepower against a 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid. And everybody knows that the Tesla, despite its weight, is speedy.

Jumping right into both vehicles’ stats, the 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid has 1,020 ponies and a one-speed automatic. The car weighs a total of 4,828 pounds, which doesn’t help with the car’s acceleration during a drag race, but it’s still quick as three electric motors work to propel all the wheels simultaneously across the pavement with instantaneous torque.

In the other corner, we have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 1,500 horsepower and a Rossier TH 400 3 speed transmission. The truck with all of its modifications weighs 4,000 pounds giving it an 828 lb weight advantage over the Tesla. Under the hood, or sitting where the hood should be, is a twin-turbo 427 LSX engine. The truck does feature 4-wheel-drive, which could benefit it in a drag race with the Tesla.

During the This vs. Plaid series, the Tesla has lost to just one car that it was pitted against, the Hoonicorn. But if any other vehicle is bound to beat the electric car, it’s this beast of a Silverado. As far as predictions go for the race, all but one have high hopes for the Chevy, and as we look at the truck, we couldn’t agree more. That much power couldn’t possibly get defeated by a couple of battery packs, even if the car can engage ludicrous speed and go plaid.

We’ll spare the incredible details of the race so you can watch it for yourselves, but hearing the roar of the Silverado as it speeds down the track brings a smile to our faces. As per usual, there are three rounds for the Hoonigan drag races, and they certainly get more interesting and exciting to watch after each race.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
