The Age of The Supertruck Begins Next Week

GMC is betting big on the new Hummer EV pickup and SUV. It’s relaunching the fabled Hummer name in a bold new way, with unprecedented electric power and torque. And it’s all coming next week with a multi-platform reveal on October 20. Furthermore, Automotive News reports you’ll be able to reserve your Hummer EV, down to the specific trim level, with a $100 deposit starting the night of the reveal.

The reveal follows a similar format to the Ford Bronco. A reveal ad will air on the “The Voice” on NBC and Game 1 of the Major League Baseball World Series on Fox, as well as social media and streaming platforms. The full length ad will only be visible on YouTube, GMC’s website, Twitter and Twitch. On October 20, GMC is hosting the NFL Thursday Night Football pregame show, and will run the ad during the first quarter of the game. And of course, you can expect the most complete and thorough reporting on GMC’s white space EV right here on MC&T.

Upon reveal, interested customers will be able to place a $100 preorder deposit on the Hummer EV on the GMC website, down to the specific trim level. While it’s unclear if the deposit is refundable, expect three trim levels. The base will be a single motor at the rear, the mid-level will get add a front motor, and the range topping model will get a tri-motor setup with 1,000 horsepower and “11,500 ft-lb” of torque.

The Hummer EV will also debut with removable doors and roof panels, and have an off-road focus. Not much is known about actual specs, but expect GMC to take advantage of electric architecture with clever features like Crab Mode.

While GM is very much positioning the Hummer EV as a somewhat standalone model, it’ll still be hugely important to GMC. The brand is extremely profitable and successful, with its AT4 and Denali sub-brands alone now outselling Cadillac. After the Chevrolet Blazer’s missed opportunity to compete with the Bronco and Wrangler, the Hummer looks like it will be an electric, tech filled and expensive alternative to the cross-town rival’s off-road SUVs.
