HUMMER EV REVIVES ‘AMERICAN REVOLUTION’ IN NEW VIDEO

The WTF Drive Mode Is Launch Control For Patriots

Most of us were around to remember the “American Revolution” ad slogan from Chevrolet back in the 2000s. It was better than today’s “Find New Roads” if you ask us, with an emphasis on the game-changing product offerings from the home team. Who can forget the unmatched FWD performance of the Cobalt SS, or the early entry into performance SUVs with the Trailblazer SS? An American Revolution indeed. And, perhaps as a throwback, the slogan makes a return in a recent GMC Hummer EV spot posted on the brand’s official Instagram last week, showing off the theatrical Watts To Freedom Mode. In the video below, you can see the massive truck nearly get the front wheels off the ground.

Tesla Says “Ludicrous,” GMC Says…”WTF”

GMC didn’t just give the Hummer EV Edition 1 a basic launch control option. This is a 1,000 horsepower truck, after all. So it has to be extra. The mode is officially called “Watts to Freedom” and rockets the truck from 0-60 in a flat 3 seconds. The impressive numbers give merit the “WTF” name as the Hummer EV truck weighs over 9,000 pounds. For comparison, the Tesla Model X P100D in Ludicrous Speed mode does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and weighs 3,500 pounds less than that (or one full C8 Corvette). Talk about absurd.

GMC’s clever naming is clearly just a preemptive heads-up measure for drivers and passengers. There will be less of a surprise when audible “WTF” obscenities undoubtedly exit their lips.

“Watts to Freedom” Only Available On Hummer EV Edition 1

Currently, the “Watts to Freedom” mode will only be offered on the Hummer EV Edition 1 models as there are no visible plans for it to makes its way onto lower-powered models just yet. Don’t worry though, if you weren’t one of those lucky enough to claim an order spot for the Edition 1, it’s not the end of the world. There’s still plenty of cool gadgets and tech loaded into the GMC truck like the Crab Mode and available Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. And while GMC’s “Quiet Revolution” won’t be giving us that classic combustion engine roar, legend has it that every time a Hummer EV Edition 1 engages “WTF” mode, you can hear bald eagle screech.
