General Motors reported its Q4 2021 earnings after the bell today, setting new records on full-year net income, EBIT-adjusted, EBIT-adjusted margin, and Earnings Per Share (EPS). The automaker also shared crucial details on what analysts can expect in the coming year. Additionally, GM finally disclosed just how many reservations customers racked up for the GMC Hummer EV. In total, GMC tallied nearly 59,000 Hummer EV truck and SUV reservations.

We’re still left in the dark with how many Edition 1 models are going to be built, but the total number is what Wall Street cares about the most. Keep in mind, these special edition electric vehicles command more than $100,000 USD each.

“GMC HUMMER EV Pickups are on their way to customers – with close to 59K reservations for the pickup and SUV,” reads the earnings report.

GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 In Production

The first salable builds of the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 electric pickup have been rolling off the GM Factory Zero assembly line since December, kicked off by a celebratory “grand opening” event attended by President Joe Biden.

It’s the culmination of less than two years of vehicle development time, which anybody who follows the industry will tell you that it’s a breakneck level of pace. This was done by revealing the Hummer EV early, allowing engineers to skip a few steps of the engineering process, such as testing with layers of black camouflage.

According to GMC executives, production of the Hummer EV may be a more gradual process than what we typically, meaning at scaling up to full scale production at the GM Factory Zero plant could take longer than normal. The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 truck starts at $110,295 USD, and comes in a single configuration with only one paint color.

SUV Launching In 2023

Like the truck, the GMC Hummer EV SUV will launch with a very limited Edition 1 package that will be on the market in “early 2023” as a 2024 model year vehicle. Unlike the truck, however, the Extreme Off-Road Package is optional, with Edition 1 SUV prices starting at $105,595 without the package, and $110,595 with the package. The Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV is expected to carry 830 horsepower, some 270 less than the truck. This mostly has to do with a shortened overall length by 2 feet, which means less batteries to power the motors. Like the truck, the Edition 1 comes is a unique configuration, with a special “Moonshot” interior, and one exterior color.

Upcoming EV3X, EV2X, EV2 Trims

The Hummer EV truck and SUV build schedules are mapped out until 2024, with more affordable trim levels introducing themselves to market each year between now and then. After the Edition 1 trims are fully built and sold, the EV3X will represent the highest trim levels for both the SUV and pickup truck body styles in 2023. Also scheduled for next spring will be the launch of the EV2X trim level, which will offer roughly the same estimated range as the EV3X, but less power as a result of a lower module battery pack. Finally, the EV2 will arrive in the 2024 calendar year, and will start at an estimated $79,995 for both body styles. Output is expected to be the same as the EV2X (625 hp), but with 50 miles less range (250 vs 300 miles).

Muscle Cars & Trucks was founded by Manoli Katakis - an automotive media veteran that has been covering the latest car news since 2009. His journalism has uncovered dozens of major product changes, updates, plans, and cancellations long before automakers were ready to make things official.

Some highlights over the years of his reporting include the uncovering of the Zora trademark before anybody else reported on the coming of a mid-engine Corvette, as well as the dead-accurate reporting of the coming of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, two years before it hit the market, and even before the debut of the concept vehicle. This type of reporting has immediately continued here, with reports of the original seventh-generation Camaro plans being shelved, as well as what's in store for the Chevrolet Silverado.

Some of his work can be found on massive automotive media outlets, such as Motor1. He also has been a guest on the 910AM Radio Station with Detroit News auto critic Henry Payne, as well as the enthusiast-oriented Camaro Show podcast.

Over the years, Manoli has interviewed various automotive industry titans, leaders, and people that make things happen otherwise. These include figureheads such as GM CEO Mary Barra, GM President Mark Reuss, automotive aftermarket icon Ken Lingenfelter, Dodge firebrand Tim Kuniskis, along with various chief engineers of vehicles such as the Ford F-150 & Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro & Corvette, and many more.

At MC&T, Manoli is taking his journalism expertise, deeply planted sources, driving abilities, and automotive industry knowledge to new levels, covering more vehicles and brands than ever before. This is the place where you will continue to read groundbreaking stories about American performance vehicles, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles. Here is where you’ll also read insights and quotes from various automotive subject matter experts on the latest relevant products, as well as some of the latest official news from their manufacturers.

Fun facts: he also once beat Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner in an autocross with a Chevrolet Bolt EV. The biggest vehicle he’s ever driven is a John Deere mining truck. Besides a go-kart, the smallest vehicle he’s driven has been a Hyundai i10. He’s also spent time in the cockpit of various American performance vehicle icons, including the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Dodge Challenger Demon, and Ford Mustang GT350R. He has reviewed dozens of trucks, SUVs, and performance vehicles over the years.

One of his favorite new vehicles on the market today happens to be the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison. He is also a card carrying member of the Sports Car Club of America, and regularly participates in Detroit Region autocross events.
