Just like its pickup truck sibling, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is getting quite a bit of attention. GMC informed media yesterday that Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 reservations have been booked “in record time,” meaning that there’s now a waiting list that’s quickly growing. And GM-Trucks reports it only took an hour to do so, the same timeframe as the Edition 1 pickup from last fall. But even though preorders are full, GMC isn’t telling the world how many Hummer EV Edition 1 pickups or SUVs will be made at the moment.
To be fair, pre-orders may have started over the weekend, but the Hummer EV SUV isn’t entering production until “Early 2023” based on the guidance given. In other words, there’s plenty of time to find out.
The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 represents a fully loaded model, and even comes with some exclusive options only offered on this limited run variant. The most obvious is the rather lovely matte Moonshot Green paint, and less noticeable is the Edition 1 badge on the dashboard. All Hummer EV Edition 1 SUVs come standard with a triple motor Ultium drivetrain that’s good for up to 830 hp and over 300 miles of total range. It should also hit 60 mph in an insane 3.5 seconds flat.

Unlike the Hummer EV truck, the SUV Edition 1 is being split into two possible packages. As standard, you get a more road biased setup, with massive 22 inch wheels and power retractable running boards. But buyers can also opt for the Extreme Off-Road package, which gives the 18 inch wheels we saw on the pickup and chunkier 35-inch tires. The package also adds underbody armor, rock sliders, a front eLocker, virtual rear lockers, heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts, and the wild Ultravision camera system with underbody visuals. While the “standard” Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 will certainly hold its own when the pavement ends, the Extreme Off-Road Package is worth it if you’re planning serious off-roading in your Hummer. And if you’re already spending $105,595, it’s unlikely the extra cost of the package is a concern.
Just like the pickup, GMC turning a lot of heads with the new Hummer SUV. Hopefully we can find out how many examples of each GM will produce, but we’d expect similar numbers considering they sold out in the same amount of time.
