GMC HUMMER EV SUV REVEALED: 830 HP ALL ELECTRIC MACHINE LAUNCHES IN 2023

The next chapter in the revival of the Hummer brand continues today. Say hello to the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV: a follow-up on the all-electric “super truck” that made its big debut last year. The new electric SUV will be available after the initial launch of the Hummer EV pickup truck, with the 830 hp SUV Edition 1 model available by “early 2023.”

And we gotta say, that green looks real good.

Mechanically, and design-wise, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is much of what we’ve already seen with the Hummer EV pickup truck. But the dimensions are different, with the Hummer pickup truck coming in at a 135.6-inch wheelbase, and the Hummer EV SUV coming in at 126.7 inches. Compared to the Rivian R1S, presumed to be the chief rival of the new GMC Hummer SUV, the latter has a longer wheelbase by 5.7 inches. And the turning circle of the Hummer EV SUV is a mere 35 feet – which is actually over three feet less than even the Tesla Model 3. And another two-feet shorter than that of the pickup truck version. In other words, the big GMC Hummer SUV is incredibly maneuverable, in no short part thanks to the vehicle’s available four-wheel steering. More details on the vehicle’s dimensions will be announced early next week.

The 2024+ GMC Hummer EV SUV will come with the trove of tricks that have so far been announced for the truck. This includes strafing Crabwalk Mode, the high-riding Extract Mode, and the super-quick “Watts to Freedom”, or WTF Mode. The interior also features customizable, multisensory features and personalized settings such as a “My Mode,” auxiliary buttons, and an open-air driving experience made possible by the standard Infinity Roof with removable Sky Panels, I-Bar, and rear drop glass. The doors, however, stay on.

Like the truck, the Hummer EV SUV will have over 200 accessories available at launch. This is on par with the Ford Bronco, if you’re keeping score.

The GMC Hummer EV SUV also splits the Edition 1 in two distinct variants, and are largely identifiable by the wheel and tire packages. The standard Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 will ride on 22-inch wheels, along with electronic assist steps. Meanwhile, the Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 Extreme Off-Road Package will come with 18-inch wheels and 35-inch-OD MT tires. The package also adds underbody armor, rock sliders, a front eLocker, virtual rear lockers, heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts, and the unique UltraVision camera system, underbody camera views. In short, if you plan on doing any sort of notable off-roading in this thing (or at least would like the insurance that you could if you wanted to), the Extreme Off-Road Package is an absolute must.

The Hummer EV SUV will be built alongside the truck at the General Motors Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant starting in early 2023, rebranded as “Factory Zero” that’s currently undergoing a multi-billion dollar renovation to solely build electric vehicles powered by GM Ultium technology. The trim level strategy of the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV also mirrors that of the 2022+ Hummer EV pickup truck. Below is a breakdown of trims, pricing, range, and power output:

Muscle Cars & Trucks was founded by Manoli Katakis - an automotive media veteran that has been covering the latest car news since 2009. His journalism has uncovered dozens of major product changes, updates, plans, and cancellations long before automakers were ready to make things official.

Some highlights over the years of his reporting include the uncovering of the Zora trademark before anybody else reported on the coming of a mid-engine Corvette, as well as the dead-accurate reporting of the coming of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, two years before it hit the market, and even before the debut of the concept vehicle. This type of reporting has immediately continued here, with reports of the original seventh-generation Camaro plans being shelved, as well as what's in store for the Chevrolet Silverado.

Some of his work can be found on massive automotive media outlets, such as Motor1. He also has been a guest on the 910AM Radio Station with Detroit News auto critic Henry Payne, as well as the enthusiast-oriented Camaro Show podcast.

Over the years, Manoli has interviewed various automotive industry titans, leaders, and people that make things happen otherwise. These include figureheads such as GM CEO Mary Barra, GM President Mark Reuss, automotive aftermarket icon Ken Lingenfelter, Dodge firebrand Tim Kuniskis, along with various chief engineers of vehicles such as the Ford F-150 & Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro & Corvette, and many more.

At MC&T, Manoli is taking his journalism expertise, deeply planted sources, driving abilities, and automotive industry knowledge to new levels, covering more vehicles and brands than ever before. This is the place where you will continue to read groundbreaking stories about American performance vehicles, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles. Here is where you’ll also read insights and quotes from various automotive subject matter experts on the latest relevant products, as well as some of the latest official news from their manufacturers.

Fun facts: he also once beat Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner in an autocross with a Chevrolet Bolt EV. The biggest vehicle he’s ever driven is a John Deere mining truck. Besides a go-kart, the smallest vehicle he’s driven has been a Hyundai i10. He’s also spent time in the cockpit of various American performance vehicle icons, including the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Dodge Challenger Demon, and Ford Mustang GT350R. He has reviewed dozens of trucks, SUVs, and performance vehicles over the years.

One of his favorite new vehicles on the market today happens to be the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison. He is also a card carrying member of the Sports Car Club of America, and regularly participates in Detroit Region autocross events.
