If there was one thing that we all learned from Barrett Jackson’s Scottsdale auction this past weekend, it’s that the GMC Hummer EV is a smash hit. When bidders had the opportunity to take home the very first example of GM’s new electric pickup truck, they didn’t hesitate to spend the big bucks. With a final hammer price of $2.5 million, the Hummer dominated the Cars for Charity portion of the auction. The timing of that sale couldn’t have been better either, as GM prepares to pull the cover off of the GMC Hummer EV SUV on April 3rd. The auction wasn’t the only bit of promotion for the electric SUV to happen this weekend however, as the automaker also released two near teaser videos.
The first teaser is titled “Countdown”, which is a reference to the date on which the SUV is slated to launch (4/3/21). The clip begins with a meteoroid hurdling its way towards Earth, as all car commercials should. As the countdown from four continues, the bit of space junk makes its way through the atmosphere as a cover to Led Zepplins’ “Immigrant Song” plays in the background. Before the clip ends we see rooster tails from a vehicle driving in the desert, and then the outline of the Hummer EV SUV. But this outline isn’t as plain as others we’ve seen, as it features a new green exterior paint color that resembles the classic Polo Green found on the C4 Corvette, while the roof maintains a more neutral hue. We’ve gone ahead and brightened the image up a bit for you at the top of this page.
The second clip is titled “Imagine”, and once again features a cover to “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin. In this video, Hummer spokesperson and NBA Superstar LeBron James asks us to imagine the world-changing ramifications of yet another Hummer EV model joining the lineup. The outline of the EV then transforms from the truck we know to the upcoming SUV. Aside from the wheels, not a lot of the design can really be seen outside of that new green color.
As has been previously confirmed, the GMC Hummer EV SUV will debut on April 3, at 5:00 p.m. EST. Like the earlier debut, you should be able to tune into to YouTube or visit GMC’s website to watch everything unfold. As soon as the event ends, customers will have a chance to reserve their new electric SUV. If the last Hummer debut is anything to go by, we’re willing to bet that loads of people will be trying to do just that.
