While the already sold out GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is certainly the most desirable Hummer, the mid-range Hummer EV2X gives you most of the awesome features for a $20,000 price cut. It’s slated to become the sweet spot of the lineup when it goes on sale in 2023 – three years away – at $89,995, with some key features elevating it above the base level EV2.
While the EV2X keeps the same 625 hp and 7,400 lbs ft of torque two motor segment as the EV2, it gets upgraded Ultium batteries to reach 300 miles on a charge, and allows for 800 volt DC fast charging. It should also be more capable off-road, thanks to upgraded suspension and drivetrain controls.
Hummer EV2X models gain four wheel steering, sure to help this giant, hefty truck feel more agile than it has any right to. That four wheel steering also allows for CrabWalk, one of the Hummer’s coolest tricks. It turns all the wheels in the same direction and uses the four wheel drive system to drive the Hummer diagonally. If this Hummer is anything like the last one, it’ll certainly help buyers navigate the city, erm, off-road trails. The EV2X also gets adaptive air suspension, that opens up the option of Extract Mode. This raises the Hummer six inches higher to get over tricky terrain. Standard Adaptive Ride Control and 22 inch wheels with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain tires should provide balance on and off-road performance.
Just like every other GMC Hummer, the EV2X gets a luxurious, tech filled interior. The 12.3 inch digital gauge cluster and 13.4 inch touchscreen infotainment system dominate the interior space. Those screens will house a suit of powertrain and off-road data, and the HD Surround View camera system. Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance is standard, as is the smartphone based Digital Key.
Removable infinity roof panels, which can be stored in the frunk, and rear drop glass provide an open air experience when you want it, something only trucks like the Jeep Gladiator can match. GMC’s Mutipro rear tailgate is standard, adding ease of use to the truck bed.
If you want the Hummer EV, but can survive without the triple motor, 800 hp setup of the EV3X, the EV2X gives most of the same features with a $10,000 discount. It sounds like the Goldilocks model in the range to us, and if you agree, you can reserve one on GMC’s website for a $100 deposit. Just be prepared to wait until spring 2023.
Fabulous engineering. I guess the electrical off road department is going to be reality no matter what.
