The all-new 2022 GMC Hummer EV has finally debuted to take on the likes of the Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck. With no shortage of hype, the all-electric Hummer is packed to the brim with technology, incredible off-road capabilities, and record-breaking levels of power. For example, it is the most powerful vehicle General Motors has ever announced from the factory, and as such, can also be the most expensive. The GMC Hummer EV, in EV2 trim, has a starting price at $79,995 for the base two-motor model – several thousand dollars more than the all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade. The Hummer EV2x, which has breakthrough features such as Adaptive Air Ride, Extract Mode and Crabwalk Mode will start at $89,995. For the three-motor Hummer EV3x trim, customers will have to shell out $99,995. This trim adds torque vectoring, and Watts to Freedom for $99,995. But this isn’t even the most expensive one.

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 trim will be the most expensive vehicle GM will have on sale today, with a starting price of $112,595, before options. This range-topping trim level includes the three-motor system, Super Cruise with three years of service, high-definition surround vision, digital key, and more. Every Edition 1 model gets a white exterior, Lunar Horizon interior, and special “Edition 1” interior badging.

The starting MSRP puts the Hummer way, way above the Tesla Cybertruck, which starts at $39,900 and tops out at $69,900 for the tri-motor model. We have yet to see a production Cybertruck, but from our initial impressions, the GMC Hummer EV is far more premium. Based on what we see today, the GMC Hummer EV price has it more directly paired with the upcoming Rivian R1T electric pickup truck, slated to start at just under $70,000.

Here is the tentative production timeline for the GMC Hummer EV:

  • Hummer EV Edition 1: Late 2021
  • Hummer EV2: Spring 2024
  • Hummer EV2x: Spring 2023
  • Hummer EV3x: Fall 2022

Reservations begin at $100. Additional trims will be added in future model years. While the GMC Hummer EV price is huge news, there’s plenty more to talk about. Stay tuned for more!

Some highlights over the years of his reporting include the uncovering of the Zora trademark before anybody else reported on the coming of a mid-engine Corvette, as well as the dead-accurate reporting of the coming of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, two years before it hit the market, and even before the debut of the concept vehicle. This type of reporting has immediately continued here, with reports of the original seventh-generation Camaro plans being shelved, as well as what's in store for the Chevrolet Silverado.

Some of his work can be found on massive automotive media outlets, such as Motor1. He also has been a guest on the 910AM Radio Station with Detroit News auto critic Henry Payne, as well as the enthusiast-oriented Camaro Show podcast.

Besides a go-kart, the smallest vehicle he’s driven has been a Hyundai i10. He’s also spent time in the cockpit of various American performance vehicle icons, including the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Dodge Challenger Demon, and Ford Mustang GT350R.
