Many will recognize the Gorilla Glass name from smartphone applications. It has been a popular screen repair alternative for people who can’t seem to keep their screen from frequently shattering. The same annoyance that smartphone owners experience is common among Jeep owners. The Jeep Wrangler, especially the JK and JL models are known for habitual windshield cracks, rocks, and chips. So it makes sense that Jeep will be offering the Corning Gorilla Glass upgrade as a Mopar ordering option to keep Wrangler and Gladiator customers happy.
This glass technology can also be found on the high-end Ford GT supercar.
As you can guess, Corning’s Gorilla glass is different from the glass you’ll find in a regular OEM windshield. It’s got three different laminate layers, and it uses the chemical-strengthening technology found in smartphone screens. Interestingly enough, the Gorilla Glass windshields are lighter and thinner than the standard windshields found on the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator. In fact, the greater resistance is helped due to the outer ply being 52% thicker than the inner laminate layer.
The move by Jeep to add the Corning Gorilla Glass option to its Wrangler and Gladiator models is a good sign. It means they have recognized a significant flaw in their vehicles and want to reconcile this annoyance for their customers. The windshield will cost $95 and according to Mopar Insiders, Jeep predicts that 80% of new Wrangler and Gladiator orders will include it.

Rubicon
Rubicon 392
Sahara 4xe
Rubicon 4xe
