A week ago, Toyota dropped the first teaser for the next-generation 4Runner. It didn’t reveal much, just a glimpse at the back bumper and the movement of the 4Runner logo to a lower position on the rear door. We’ve speculated that the vehicle will share design queues with the new 250 Series Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus GX550. Now, another teaser has been released, which showcases more of the rear of the vehicle, along with a reveal date for the beloved SUV, set to happen in just a few days on Tuesday, April 9.
2025 Toyota 4Runner Teaser: Details
The rear of the upcoming 2025 Toyota 4Runner has a boxier shape, which looks fantastic. It features a massive infotainment screen at the front and the iconic rear window that can roll down if needed. The Toyota name dawns what appears to be a massive rear handle, accompanied by two arrow buttons likely used to control the lock and unlock the vehicle.

The current generation 4Runner is an aging vehicle with a 15-year run of the 5th generation vehicle. Toyota has given the SUV frequent updates to keep it fresh for customers. The expression “if it ain’t broke” comes to mind when thinking of the Toyota 4Runner, as the vehicle has grown in popularity over the past 10 years with a surge that began in 2014. In 2021, 4Runner sales peaked at 144,469 units, which is an insane number, and though the numbers dropped quite a bit from last year’s numbers, sitting at a total of 109,951 U.S. sales, it’s still trendy.
Like the new Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Lexus GX, and LX, the next-generation 4Runner will ride on Toyota’s TGNA-F platform. The 4Runner will be a body-on-frame vehicle, slotting underneath the new Land Cruiser in Toyota’s off-road lineup. Powertrains will likely be shared with the latest Tacoma, meaning the SUV will use a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as a base, with a hybrid powertrain option. Like its Tacoma sibling, the sixth-generation 4Runner will have a variety of trims ranging from the base SR5 to the luxurious Limited. There will likely also be a TRD Pro option. I will guaran damn tee you they will not offer it in a nice V-8 as all these companies are discontinuing the beefy V-8’s and taking the fun out of even having a nice suv. Thats why I just ordered a 580 GLE SUV with 510 HP. Get something “decent” while you still can.
