Ram recently showed off a concept for the upcoming midsize pickup for the Ram brand to dealers. While pictures were strictly forbidden, information regarding the truck was revealed with the indication that it would be electric and look similar to the Ram 1500 REV we’re getting for the 2025 model year. The brand could be locking in the design of the new midsize truck as soon as this month as Ralph Gilles, the chief design officer of Stellantis, revealed that his concept for the midsize truck was greeted with an overwhelmingly positive reaction from Ram dealers. The name of the upcoming Ram midsized truck, whether it’s “Dakota” or something else, remains TBA.
Midsize Ram Pickup Design: Details
According to MotorTrend, we can expect some of the design cues and features of the Ram Revolution full-size truck concept to make their way into the smaller truck. We may even see the midsize truck with some elements from the concept before the production 2025 Ram 1500 REV gets them. However, the main focus for the midsize Ram is for it to “have the presence of its big brother,” Gilles stated.

Though the final design hasn’t been locked in, Gilles has a clear favorite concept that he’s created, and it seems that Ram CEO Mike Koval likes the truck the dealers saw the best, so perhaps a combination of the two will be the one to get locked in. The next step is further study to determine if the business case is there once that stage is complete, which includes internal sign-offs. That includes Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, who has patiently watched the process and likes what he sees.
Using the dealers to get a feeler on the future Ram Dakota (or whatever it’s going to be called) as a giant consumer clinic for feedback was a crucial step in the process. Now it’s just a matter of proving the viability and getting the truck to the market. Unfortunately, there’s not much of a timeframe yet for the midsize Ram electric truck. The earliest could be 2024, but that is a stretch. The more viable option is to see the vehicle arrive sometime after the Ram 1500 REV reaches the market. However, the Brand chief aims to launch the midsize truck quickly while delivering an exquisite product.
