The battle for pickup truck segment dominance in the United States is one where no love is lost between competitors. When FCA rolled out the Ram 1500 TRX, they made no quarrels about their intentions of dethroning the mighty Ford Raptor. The two trucks take a different approach to off-roading, with the TRX more focused on trails and the Raptor is more attuned for higher speeds in the sand. However, some new video shows that Raptor owners might not be the only ones who can throw down a pretty good Baja impression.

Thanks to Instagram user ramtrxblog, we’ve got some new footage of a Ram 1500 TRX prototype moving with some serious speed over the bumpy desert. The Hellcat-powered pickup remains composed throughout the video, despite the significant amount of suspension articulation going on. The TRX’s Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks with Dual Electronic Proportional Valves caught a lot of flack from Ford fans online, but they look pretty solid here. That Dana 60 rear axle doesn’t appear to be having any high-speed issues either, likely assisted by the axle hop damper found on the Ram 1500 TRX. All of a sudden the anti-TRX talking points put out by the Ford guys are seeming a little less viable.

The sense of speed in the video is also helped along by a proper dose of supercharger whine coming from the Ram 1500 TRX, which is exactly what you want from your 702 horsepower truck. It seems like the Ram is going to be an absolute freight train on the pavement and off, which perhaps isn’t too surprising for the fastest, quickest, and most powerful truck in the world.

The Ram 1500 TRX was designed to beat the Ford Raptor at its own game. We’ve known this from the beginning, but there was some skepticism about the truck’s weight and off-road hardware. If this clip is anything to go by, we don’t think that Ram buyers are going to have anything to worry about. Raptor buyers on the other hand…
