RIVIAN SURPRISES WITH R3, R3X ELECTRIC SUVS

The R2 Reveal Wasn’t All This Week

Rivian R3

Rivian just unveiled the anticipated R2, which will be the company’s major expansion into building more affordable electric vehicles for consumers to enjoy. However, during the reveal, the company also unveiled the R3 and R3X, both of which are smaller crossovers with “tidy” dimensions that still deliver big in terms of performance, off-road capability, passenger comfort, and storage.

Rivian R3 and R3X: Details

The Rivian R3X is a performance variant of the R3 offering even more dynamic abilities both on and off-road. It certainly stands out with its unique spoiler and futuristic wheels. As for the design of the exterior and interior of the R3, the midsize SUV seeks to demonstrate the scalability of Rivian’s brand across different form factors while continuing to be immediately recognizable. The R3’s hatch-style design maximizes space while keeping a sporty, athletic silhouette.

Leveraging Rivian’s in-house drive unit platform and technology, there will be Single-Motor (RWD), Dual-Motor (AWD), and Tri-Motor (two motors in the rear and one in the front) configurations, with the quickest configurations capable of delivering 0-60 mph acceleration in under 3 seconds. The Rivian R2, R3, and R3X will utilize an all-new 4695 cell that offers significant improvements in energy density and output, estimating over 300 miles of range on a single charge. On top of that, the Rivian R2 and R3 will utilize the company’s new perception stack featuring 11 cameras, five radars, and a more powerful computing platform to provide dramatically enhanced autonomous capabilities.

So, the Rivian R2 is expected to start at around $45,000, which is very reasonable for an EV, but if that’s still too much, the R3 is expected to be priced below the R2. The R3 and R3X deliveries will start after R2. This will ensure that Rivian has a smooth launch and rapid ramp of the R2 midsize SUV. If you’re outside North America, the R2, R3, and R3X will be made available after the launch in North America.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
