THREE-ROW JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON IS ONE OF A KIND

Should Jeep Make This?

With the introduction of the Grand Wagoneer concept, FCA has finally committed to bringing a three-row SUV to the market. And while the luxurious full-size SUV is slated to do battle against the likes of the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator, it’s not the family vehicle every Jeep fan had in mind. Some are certainly going to be more interested in something like this three-row JL Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

Off-road car collector Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan uploaded several images of this three-row Jeep Wrangler to his Instagram page. The Sheikh currently holds the world record for having the largest off-road vehicle collection, with 718 4×4 vehicles under his care. That’s all to say that he knows his stuff when it comes to customized rides, and this particular Jeep is no exception.

This three-row SUV required more than just a bit of work. Special doors then had to be made, which are longer than the factory rear doors on a four-door Wrangler. All of the side glass is also custom, despite maintaining a relatively stock appearance. The builders went as far as to shorten the rear overhang to keep the proportions more in line with a stock JL Jeep Wrangler, while the wheelbase is clearly longer.

The third row is certainly pretty tight, but they generally are even in the largest of vehicles. The second row passengers are also now treated to captains chairs, which we’re sure is a welcome addition. Those in the very back may wish to watch their heads out on the dunes however, as headroom isn’t exactly in great excess. Overall, though, it seems like quite the functional transformation.

While a three-row Jeep Wrangler probably isn’t going to happen any time soon, the Grand Wagoneer might not be the brand’s only SUV to gain some more seating room. The next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee is also rumored to be gaining a third row option moving forwards. Until then however, these Instagram photos will have to hold you over.

Update: while concrete evidence remains unavailable, it would appear that this three-row Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is actually a stretched JL frame based on the wording of the Sheikh’s Instagram posts, versus a JT Gladiator pickup truck. But who can say for sure…
