2020 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON RECON LEAKED

Now With Even More Off-Road Hardware

Jeep Wrangler

Earlier this Month, Jeep added a new trim level to the Wrangler configurator with little mention of doing so. This range-topping Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon is the new top dog of FCA’s off-road focused line-up, joining other new special models such as the the Freedom Edition Wrangler available now in 2020.

Based on the standard Rubicon, the Wrangler Rubicon Recon takes that model’s tried and true formula and gives it just a bit extra. The SUV’s list of added features is extensive, starting with next-gen Dana front and rear heavy-duty axles and a Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case. Electric locking differentials are present in both the front and rear, while a disconnecting front sway bar should help the Rubicon Recon handle even the most extreme terrain it may encounter.

Changes to the exterior on the Rubicon Recon are what truly set it apart from more lowly Wranglers. The SUV features new steel bumpers at both ends, a bumper hoop, as well as Moab rock rails. The fenders are finished in body color paint, while the grille body and the 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch Falken Wildpeak tires are finished in gloss black. The grille inserts and headlight surrounds are borrowed straight from the standard Rubicon, finished in grey. The Rubicon Recon is also fitted with a matte black hood decal with red accents and a Recon fender badge.

Under the hood of the Wrangler Rubicon Recon sits the familiar 2.0L turbo-four found across the line-up, though the $2,000 eight-speed automatic is the sole transmission option here. In Recon spec, the SUV is fitted with FCA’s eTorque mild hybrid system for optimal off-road efficiency.

According to JLWranglerForums, where a photo can be found, the Recon package will carry a $2,755 over the standard Rubicon model, with a base price of $42,875 for the two-door model or $47,875 for the four-door Wrangler Unlimited, including the $1,495 destination charge. Jeep plans to offer the Rubicon Recon with their entire list of options, including a variety of roof options and paint colors, as well as upgraded interior appointments.

On the aftermarket front, you could also go with the AEV solution. Pricing is expected to be announced within a month from now.
