JEEP WAGONEER, GRAND WAGONEER DEBUTING MARCH 11 WITH FIRST-EVER AMAZON FIRE TV FOR AUTO

Streaming Services Will Be Built In

Grand Wagoneer Concept

The classic Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are some of the most iconic family road trip vehicles in history. In their heyday, these Jeeps were the go-to vehicles for families heading on vacation by car. With the all-new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, it sounds like Jeep is going for the same idea, as Stellantis has just announced the 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be getting Amazon Fire TV for Auto, the first of its kind.

Essentially, the SUVs’ Uconnect 5 platform can be optioned with Amazon Fire TV software built in. Think of it like a smart TV with streaming services built in. This will give passengers access to Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu and more. Amazon Alexa will also be built into this system, allowing users to use voice control to find shows and movies, or communicate with smart devices back home. This will all run off a built in cellular connection, but Jeep hasn’t mentioned what carriers it will use.

This information also confirms some interior features of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept we saw back in September. On the inside, we counted a whopping seven screens, with one for the gauge cluster, two in the center console, one for the passenger and two for the rear seats. Jeep says the rear screens and front passenger screen will be able to use Amazon Fire TV for Auto and stream content while driving, and a privacy screen will prevent the driver from getting distracted by the passenger display. We assumed the rear screens were coming in the production Jeep Wagoneer and or Grand Wagoneer, but wondered if the nifty passenger display would remain a concept flourish. Not so, it seems.

Jeep also says the main central infotainment display can power Amazon Fire TV, but that video can only be played while the SUV is in park. We don’t have self driving cars yet, folks. Additionally, owners can download shows of movies for offline watching, helpful when entering areas with poor cell service.

Now, just because the final Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will likely have most, if not all of the screens we saw in the concept doesn’t mean they will all come standard. Amazon Fire TV for Auto is optional too. The Jeep Wagoneer is the lower end model, going up against vehicles like the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Ford Expedition while the Grand Wagoneer is the luxurious counterpart, and will fight the Lincoln Navigator and Escalade. We expect the Wagoneer to only get these screens optionally, while the Grand Wagoneer could possibly get them and the streaming tech as standard.

But alas, we’ll have to wait until March 11 to find out for sure, when the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will finally debut. Expect both to hit dealerships over the summer. The ultimate road trip vehicle is almost back.
