As we head into the 2022 model year, the Chevrolet Camaro is set to remain relatively unchanged from the 2021 offering. MC&T previously reported that General Motors is removing the track-focused 1LE packages from the turbo-four and V6-powered models, as they streamline the lineup based on customer demand. Beyond that disappointing shift, the automaker is also revising the appearance packages and paint color options customers will be able to choose from. Thanks to GM designer Adam Barry, we now have our first look at one of the new colors on offer. More specifically, we get to see a 2022 Chevrolet Camaro wearing the new Vivid Orange Metallic hue.
2022 Chevrolet Camaro: New Colors, Mix Of Packages
Vivid Orange Metallic is one of the two new colors coming to the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, alongside Rapid Blue. That latter color first made its public debut at the 2021 Daytona 500, and is also available on the C8 Corvette. The car you see pictured is also equipped with the new Design Package 2, which is no longer tied to the Wild Cherry Design Package. In fact, both the Wild Cherry and Shock & Steel Design Packages are no longer available for 2022. Shock Yellow is also gone as a standalone hue, whereas Wild Cherry Tintcoat remains on offer. The Redline Edition will continue for the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro also.

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro lineup will also see the addition of the Design Package 3, which is available on all models except the 1LS and ZL1 trims. The package includes a satin black hood stripe with silver ice metallic hash mark, Camaro logo center caps, a black Camaro fender badge, and a blacked out fuel-filler cap with carbon accents. Inside, the package brings black sueded knee pads as well as premium carpeted floor mats with the Camaro logo. That said, you can’t simply spec this package on its own. The RS Package is required for the 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, and LT1 models, as are 20-inch 5-split spoke wheels. Furthermore, Vivid Orange Metallic, Rapid Blue, and Wild Cherry Tintcoat are the sole paint options if you option the package.
A Throwback Hue
With the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro slated to be the car’s final act as an ICE-powered muscle car, we’d love to see GM go all out at the end. Of course they don’t seem to be interested in such a celebratory send-off, which is a bummer for everyone involved. The Chevrolet Camaro nameplate is one of the most legendary in all of American history, and deserves a proper farewell. At least Vivid Orange Metallic is a cool color reminiscent of Hugger Orange, one of the most sought after hues found on classic examples.
