For those of us who spend our time plotting out our dream overlanding expeditions, the folks over at American Expedition Vehicles are surely no strangers. The company is known for their incredible off-road focused builds, including the AEV Prospector XL package for the Ram HD pickup. For those who aren’t quite ready to sink nearly $20,000 into off-road upgrades for their heavy duty pickup truck, the outfitter is about to start selling some AEV Prospector XL suspension parts à la carte.
According to a recent post, AEV is just about ready to offer the Ram HD-specific 3-inch DualSport RT Suspension for sale. This isn’t your average suspension lift kit, as the whole system has been rethought to improve performance, both on and off the road. A set of 3-inch cast aluminum coil spacers join the factory springs and control arms, mated to a set of front brackets that reposition the control arms and axle an inch forward for better fender well clearance. The shocks are a Bilstein XP8100-series remote reservoir unit co-engineered with AEV, and they feature Prospector XL-specific digressive valving. Combine all that with the extended swaybar endlinks, bumpstop lowering brackets, and an aluminum front driveshaft spacer, and you end up with a very robust suspension that will help you cross any terrain you throw at it.
The AEV Prospector XL suspension package will be available for either the Ram 2500 or 3500 HD models, regardless of the powertrain. While we don’t have any pricing information available for you at this time, it is safe to say it should come in at a fraction of what the full $17,549 Prospector XL package will run you. Furthermore, AEV isn’t stopping with the Prospector XL suspension package either, as the company states they will continue to offer more Ram HD-specific parts as the summer progresses.
