The quickest, fastest and most powerful muscle car in the world — the 1,025 horsepower 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is here. The seventh and final “Last Call” muscle car that stands as the final say of ICE muscle car performance, delivering performance numbers that stand head and shoulders above just about anything with an engine, and without an engine. Especially for the money.

With a full tank of E85 fuel, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 cranks out an incredible 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft. of torque to the ground from the factory. That’s more than twice the output of the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse.

One may assume that Dodge simply tweaked the existing Demon V8 engine to achieve these incredible power numbers and performance specs. They would be wrong, as the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 sees upgrades to almost every primary engine power component (minus the camshaft) of the 6.2-liter high-output supercharged Hemi engine. It’s practically all-new.

Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 Engine And Transmission: Details

To say this Dodge Challenger Demon breathes fire isn’t a joke, as it shares DNA with the Direct Connection Hellephant C170 crate engine (another reason for the “170” proof callout in the new Demon model’s name). Moreover, engine upgrade implements in the Demon’s rebirth are nothing to scoff at, starting with the modified 3.0L Supercharger from the Hellephant, featuring a 40 percent increase in boost pressure, taking the Demon 170 to 21.3 psi compared to 15.3 psi for the Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody. This explains the “Density Matters” teaser as well as the “Scream” teaser.

The Hellephant supercharger in the 2023 Dodge Demon 170 also features a 3.02-inch pulley that delivers 14 percent more overdrive than a Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye and an updated 2.68 drive ratio. Be ready to spend some hefty bucks on fuel for this thing, as it features high-flow fuel injectors capable of providing 164 gallons per hour, exceeding the flow rate of the average American shower. A fast-response ethanol sensor is integrated into the fuel injector rail as well.

Other upgraded components to the record-breaking Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 engine include:

  • 105mm Diameter Throttle Body: Increased throttle body diameter results in 33 percent higher air-flow volume than the Hellcat Redeye Widebody or 2018 SRT Demon
  • Valve-train: Nitride-coated intake valves and upgraded valve guides and seat materials assist with ethanol compatibility
  • Cylinder Head/Clamp Load: Aerospace-specification high-strength steel studs with steel inserts integrated into aluminum cylinder head contribute to a 38 percent increase in clamping load
  • Main Bearing Caps/Clamp Load: Upgraded head and main cap fasteners for increased clamping load capability allow a 44 percent increase in clamping load compared to the Redeye, with aerospace-specification high-strength steel bolts and billet steel main caps
  • Cylinder Pressure: Cylinder Pressure is 32 percent higher than the Hellcat Redeye Widebody, measuring 2,500 psi on E-85 fuel
  • Main Rod/Bearings: Main and rod bearing materials upgraded to copper-lead for increased load capability
  • Connecting Rod: Higher-strength connecting rod and improved pin bushing support increased combustion pressure
  • Block Machining: modified machining for head studs and main bearing cap bolts
  • Crank Damper: Viscous damper assists in reducing torsional vibration
  • Spark Plugs: New spark plugs with a lower heat range for optimal combustion with ethanol fuel

Finally, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 features the proven TorqueFlite 8HP90 eight-speed automatic transmission, with an updated output flange to accommodate a larger diameter and stronger prop shaft. The 8-speed also comes with an upgraded trans brake, which Dodge is calling the -patent-pending TransBrake 2.0, which allows for torque-shaping capability and easier driver interaction to dial-in pre-set torque limits.

2023 Dodge Demon 170 Performance Specs

All of this powertrain engineering unique to the Dodge Demon 170 translates to a car that can accelerate from 0-60 in just 1.66 seconds and delivers the highest g-force acceleration of any production car at 2.004 G forces. Yes, the Dodge Demon 170 is quicker than a Tesla Model S Plaid.

Being that it was built for this, the Dodge Demon 170 sets a new quarter-mile record for a produxtion car. Officially, the muscle car of muscle cars runs an NHRA-certified 8.91 seconds at 151.17 mph, roughly a full second faster than the previous Demon. And yes, it can run a quarter mile faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid, as well.
