FORD MAVERICK LIGHTNING, RANGER LIGHTNING TRADEMARKED

The Ford F-150 Lightning has been a massive success for Ford. In fact, all of their newest additions to their vehicle lineup have been hugely popular. But with the success and company’s push towards electrification, it’s no surprise they wouldn’t have plans to extend that Lightning name to their other trucks. Recent trademark filings found and posted on the Maverick Truck Club forum show that Ford Europe has filed for the “Maverick Lightning” and “Ranger Lightning” names.

Ford Maverick Lightning and Ranger Lightning: Details

The Ford Maverick getting turned into a fully electric truck was bound to happen, as the truck’s base form is a hybrid powertrain (though customers can opt out of hybridization if they wish). However, despite its extreme success here in North America, with Ford having well over 100,000 customer orders. Ford hasn’t shown any intention of releasing the Maverick in Europe, likely due to the lack of truck demand. However, with the recent trademark filing for the Ford Maverick Lightning name, we could see a fully electric version of the Maverick coming to the old continent.

On the other side of the coin is the Ford Ranger Lightning. We knew this would be inevitable as the new Ford Ranger was designed to be versatile and ready to accept a wide variety of power trains as demand changes throughout its life span. That coupled with Ford Europe’s plan to have all their vehicles having zero emissions by 2035. It makes sense that the Ford Ranger would be getting a fully-electric Lightning variant.

“The Next Horizontal Brand”

Ford CEO Jim Farley has previously gone on record to say that the Ford Maverick is primed to be the next “horizontal brand” for the company, with an array of trims, variants, and prices. Seeing the cachet that Ford built with the F-150 Lightning, it only makes sense that a Maverick Lightning is on deck, while an electric Ranger has been previously eluded to, as well.
