Ever since Ford first pulled the cover off of the Mustang Mach-E last November, we have been patiently waiting for the arrival of a performance-minded model. That wait is now over however, as Ford has just released official details about the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. As the most focused example of the electric crossover we’ve seen yet, Ford believes this electric, five-door Mustang will earn the respect of the pony car faithful.
The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition was first announced all the back at the vehicle’s debut, and will slot in as the current range-topper. Like any proper high-performance muscle car, this new EV packs significantly more power than its stablemates. By drawing more power out of the car’s 88-kilowatt-hour battery pack, Ford says the GT Performance Edition will produce 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough juice to send the EV from 0-60 mph in a targeted time of 3.5 seconds. A sprint that is on par with the Tesla Model Y Performance, undoubtedly a main competitor for the new EV.

The added performance doesn’t come without some range penalty however. Ford says that the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will arrive with an EPA-estimated range of 235 miles per charge, which falls quite a bit short of the rest of the lineup.
Ford hasn’t just cranked up the power to make this new pony car quicker. The brakes are four-piston Brembo units, with rotors that measure an utterly massive 19-inches at the front and rear. The sporty Mach-E has also been fit with Ford’s MagneRide damping and a set of Pirelli summer tires to improve handling characteristics. The automaker has made some changes inside the SUV to make it a bit sportier as well. The seats have been designed by Ford Performance, and feature some unique Miko inserts. The instrument panel also receives an upgrade treatment, as it now features an aluminum appliqué.

The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will be available in several signature Mustang paint colors, which include: Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat, Dark Matter Gray Metallic, Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Star White Metallic Tri-Coat, Grabber Blue Metallic, Shadow Black, Iconic Silver Metallic and Space White Metallic.
Orders are officially open now for the standard Mach-E GT model, though customers will be able to opt for the special edition once production nears. Regardless of which Hi-Po model you go for, expect deliveries to take place during the summer of 2021. You can click the link here to reserve your own electric crossover.
