Originally debuting in the Ford Super Duty, the 7.3L Godzilla engine is a high-displacement, cast-iron pushrod V8 that effortlessly delivers tons of torque at a low RPM, meaning that the big engine can churn for miles and miles under minimal duress. The same can’t usually be said for the wound-up small displacement turbo engines with a lower cylinder count. It also makes for a great crate engine, as the Godzilla V8 is currently sold off-the-shelf from Ford Performance. And more recently, customers can now bundle the cast-iron behemoth with a 10R140 transmission.
Ford Godzilla V8 Crate Engine And Transmission Kit: Details
Ford Performance states that the part is designed and intended only for competition or off-highway use. Customers shouldn’t install it on a vehicle that will be driven on public roads and highways as it’s likely to violate U.S. and Canadian laws and regulations relating to motor vehicle emissions. In other words, this powertrain combination is for track use or off-road use only. Listed as part number M-6007-73, the Godzilla V8 Super Duty crate engine produces 430 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 475 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine has 10.5:1 compression and uses port fuel injection.
The kit also includes control pack M-6017-73A, which gives customers PCM with Ford Performance Calibration, an electronic throttle pedal, a Mustang Bullitt airbox, and an 87mm Bullitt M-9926-M50B throttle body w/M-974-M5087 adaptor. But that’s not all! M-8600-73 FEAD kit gives customers an alternator and bracket, power steering pump, tensioner, belt, and installation hardware. The Production Super Duty 10R140 transmission and torque converter also comes with a transmission cooler, shifter and cable assembly, and mounting hardware. Lastly, the M-11000-SD73 starter and index plate ensure customers have absolutely everything they need to complete their builds.
This package won’t come cheap, setting buyers back $19,995, but the price makes sense as it’s a complete kit with everything you need to get your vehicle rolling. Obviously, the package is hefty, weighing 737 lbs with dimensions of 36.5″ x 44.5″ x 36. It’ll be interesting to see what builds come from purchasing this engine kit, though it may be limited since use on the road isn’t recommended.
