For over 50 years now, the Ford Mustang has been the best-selling sports car in the United States. That may be because the legendary pony car lineup offers a bit of something for everyone, whether you want a stylish daily driver or a supercar-hunting muscle car. Furthermore, the Mustang platform is a great starting point for those who like to modify their vehicles. And while you can certainly head to the aftermarket for help in this venture, Ford Performance has options for owners looking to keep things in the family. The Ford Performance Power Pack 3 helps to boost horsepower on 2015-2017 S550 Mustang GT models, and now Ford will show you how to install it yourself.

The Ford Performance Power Pack 3 for the 2015-2017 Mustang GT aims to bring a bit of the Shelby GT350’s character to the lowly GT. The package includes a new intake manifold tuned for high-RPM performance, a better breathing cold air intake, and a larger 87mm throttle body. The kit also includes some new PCM software that helps to calibrate the engine to better utilize the new hardware. Ford Performance also says that this kit is available for owners of both manual and automatic equipped cars, with no added hassle. Best of all however, the kit is easy enough to install at home, and the company has just uploaded a step-by-step guide to their website.

The kit may not be a challenge to install, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some real benefits. While making this tutorial for owners, Ford went ahead and tested a Mustang GT on the dyno before and after the install. According to their findings, the Power Pack 3 provides owners with around 22 more peak wheel horsepower, though peak wheel torque does drop a bit. That torque dip shouldn’t be too noticeable however, as the engine’s effective powerband has been widened by 900 RPM up top. Add to that the extra 60 horsepower you’ll have at 7,500 RPM, and you likely won’t miss the low-end grunt. A tradeoff sure, but one that you won’t regret when the go pedal is mashed into the carpets

The Ford Performance Power Pack 3 carries an MSRP of $2,860, which isn’t cheap. That said, it is the only 50 state legal intake manifold and calibration kit for the S550 Ford Mustang GT on sale today. Plus it’s hard to beat the peace of mind that comes with factory designed and developed components.
