TOYOTA ABOUT TO RESPOND TO FORD, STELLANTIS AND GM WITH NEW TACOMA

The Sales Chart Topping Toyota Truck Is Overdue For A New Generation Amid Formidable Competition

2023 is making itself out to be the year of next-generation midsize trucks, with General Motors releasing the new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Meanwhile, Ford is also bringing the new Ranger to North American shores this year. The Jeep Gladiator is also expected to see some updates, as well. All of these trucks have some sort of advantage or another over their Japanese rival, the Toyota Tacoma. And yet, it’s the Tacoma that continues to be the sales king. Despite this, Toyota is keen that the competition is getting evermore fierce, and it appears that it’s now time for a new Tacoma to reveal itself as an answer to GM, Stellantis, and Ford.

Next-Generation 2024 Toyota Tacoma Teaser: Details

As far as what the new Tacoma truck will look like, it’s likely going to be the image below, which was discovered in a Brazilian patent filing. Kinda looks like the new Chevy Colorado, doesn’t it?

2024 Toyota Tacoma Design Patent

Taking the leak in stride, Toyota came up with a clever teaser for the new Tacoma on social media. In the image at the top of this article, we see the outgoing model driving away, with a sign on a building that says “Brazilian Patent Office” in the background, and a caption reads as “Patented good looks.” Bravo, Toyota. Bravo.

Looking at things a little closer, and we see a couple of easter eggs. A closer look at the license plate’s number reveals a date: 040423, otherwise understood as 4/4/23. This means the truck could be revealed as early as this Tuesday. That’s right, Toyota is unveiling the new Tacoma on, yes, Taco Tuesday. Again, bravo.

Rarely are these little things just things. Recall the 2023 number on the Dodge Charger’s odometer from an official photo taken few years ago? That easter egg turned out to be the final year of Charger and Challenger as we know them.

On top of that potentially being the reveal date for the new Toyota Tacoma, 4/4 is also known as 4×4 Day among off-road enthusiasts, which both Jeep and Ford are known to celebrate in Moab during that week. So while Ford has recently been crashing what is known as the Easter Jeep Safari, Toyota may be joining the party this year. Next week is also the New York International Auto Show.

Now for the second easter egg in the photo, which could be an actual image of the new Tacoma, which is coming towards us, cresting a hill that the road is on, but out of focus. From what we can see, it has a prominent grille, vertically oriented headlights, and a flat hood and appears to be painted in light gray.

Separately, Toyota shared another image with a silhouetted truck on a rocky ground set against a night sky, and it’s safe to say it’s the new 2024 Tacoma. The truck features a similar shape to the new Tundra, with the same squared profile that its bigger brother received during its 2022 model year update. It’s also visible that the rear of the cab has a minor spoiler, and the tailgate appears to get the same aerodynamic extension as the Tundra to help make the midsize Tacoma slip through the air better for fuel economy’s sake.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
