EarthCruiser has been doing incredible things over the past 16 years, building the ultimate off-road expedition vehicles that are capable of taking people just about anywhere for extended periods of time. That said, despite having some amazing products, the company recently announced that it has ceased operations “after 16 years of innovation in the overland travel industry,” and Thursday will be the last day of operations for its facility.
Since 2008, EarthCruiser has been building adventure-ready vehicles that have traveled to some of the world’s most remote corners, including the EXP, FX, and Terranova models. The company’s most recent venture was the GMC Hummer EV EarthCruiser Upfit, which was released only a few months ago. It wasn’t too long ago that the company had put its Hummer EV EarthCruiser Upfit up for auction, this might help explain why. Based on the announcement, changing market dynamics and economic challenges have made it difficult for the company to sustain operations. The result was a difficult decision to close the business, but after careful consideration and in-depth strategic analysis, EarthCruiser has ultimately decided to wind down operations.
This is wild to see, as the company has been pretty prevalent within the overlanding community, especially with the latest collaboration between GMC and EarthCruiser. It comprised designers, engineers, technicians, and, most notably, adventurers with millions of miles of real-world overlanding experience. Each product has been designed to be the ultimate self-sustainable 4×4 off-road exploration vehicle, minus the occasional stop for groceries and fresh water. EarthCruiser products were intended for extended time away from civilization.
According to ktvz.com, the EarthCruiser team has extended a thank you to the overlanding community and its supporters for being part of its story. Currently, the company is working with professionals to accomplish an orderly liquidation per state law. Indeed, they will be missed.
