Over the past few years, we have watched as off-roading and overlanding have garnered much more attention from the buying public. Whether it be the result of an ingrained sense of adventure, or more recently the desire to get away from others, Overlanding is here to stay. Thanks to the folks at Mecum Auctions, you have a chance to get your hands on this extremely modified Chevrolet Colorado fitted with a 6.8L Duramax diesel engine that is tailor-made for this type of self-reliant activity.

This beastly Chevrolet Colorado is being offered by Mecum during their Dallas 2020 auction, which runs from October 15-17. The truck started its life as a 2019 Colorado LT, before being fit with a host of upgrades that may even make a ZR2 owner blush. Under the hood now sits a modified 6.8L Duramax diesel engine, which is quite a bit larger than anything General Motors offers from the factory. Even the updated 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD has a 6.6L Duramax. There’s also a BDS suspension, a 5-inch Fox coil over conversion kit, Baja Kits prerunner long travel upper and lower control arms, and ZR2 Eaton e-lockers front and rear. The upgraded suspension is put to the ground via a set of 17-inch XD Series Machete beadlock wheels wrapped in 37×12.50-inch Falken Wildpeak M/T tires. Other performance modifications include an S&B Filters cold-air intake, and a 3-inch exhaust.

The tweaked suspension isn’t enough to transform this Chevrolet Colorado into a true overlanding machine however. In order to go anywhere with your truck, it’s going to need to be fit with some added protection. This particular build features Bodyguard bumpers at both ends, N-FAB RKR rock sliders, and some high cut fenders complete with faux flares.

Furthermore, an overlanding vehicle needs to be able to bring all your supplies with you. An M-Racks roof rack, RotopaX liquid storage container with mounting plates, and an ARB refrigerator, generator and on board air are installed to ensure you don’t go without. Driving to the middle of nowhere also means you have to bring your sleeping arrangements along, which is why this Colorado also has a Tuff Stuff Overland roof top tent on top.

Building a truck like this 2019 Chevrolet Colorado LT isn’t a cheap process, but the original owner of this truck has already done the hard work. If you don’t want to have to hassle with building an overlanding vehicle for yourself, this is the one to get.

    • It would be nice if the Colorado had any good engines tbh. 4.3 and 5.3 small blocks should have been the motors. Instead we got a car engine and a diesel that can’t get out of its own way.
