The 20th Anniversary of The Fast and Furious franchise is nearly upon us. The Fast and The Furious released on June 22nd in 2001 and was an immediate hit among movie-watchers and car enthusiasts alike. Since that fateful day in the theater, we have all watched the beloved franchise devolve into the money-grabbing action movie nonsense that it is today. To honor the long history of the movie series (there’s twelve now in case you lost track), watchmaker Jacob and Co. has built a commemorative Fast and Furious watch for the epic price of $580,000.
The Fast and Furious Twin Turbo Is A Masterpiece
The official name of the watch is the Fast and Furious Twin Turbo. While the watch sounds like a plastic toy you could buy your kids at Walmart to teach them time-telling, it’s actually an impressive, real work of art that has had countless hours of hard engineering and design labor poured into it. Perhaps the folks over at Universal Studios could use some of that when making the next Fast and Furious movie. According to Jacob and Co, the half-a-million dollar timepiece features four complex complications (a watch term for parts) of intricate technology that have never been used together in an individual watch. This includes a twin triple-axis tourbillon, a decimal minute repeater, a monopusher chronograph, and pit board time difference calculator.

The iconic movie details in the watch face include the figure of a long-haired woman waving racing checkered flags. She’s positioned in between the immediately recognizable Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra respectively driven by Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in the original blockbuster: The Fast and The Furious. The Swiss watchmaker says that the intricate graphics “…capture the feeling of living life one quarter mile at a time.” As cheesy as it sounds, the watch itself is an undeniable masterpiece. The Fast and Furious Twin Turbo is composed of an incredible 837 individual high-caliber components assembled to work together seamlessly.
Yes, Someone Will Buy This Watch
Like the most recent movies from the Fast and Furious series, someone will happily spend money on this absurd creation. Even so, the 20th anniversary of the movie franchise is a big deal, and the Jacob and Co. Twin Turbo timepiece is an appropriate way to commemorate the occasion. Plenty of die-hard car enthusiasts and gear-heads will begrudgingly drag themselves to the theater for old time’s sake. The most recent addition, F9, which hits theaters next week, features musical artist Cardi B.
If you can get past what Jonn Cena did at the behest of the CCP, perhaps you’ll go watch it, with this outrageously expensive watch around your wrist?
