FORD BRONCO HOT ROD IMAGINED BY CHIP FOOSE

Ford Bronco Hot Rod

While the new 2021 Ford Bronco is around the corner to do battle with the Jeep Wrangler, celebrity designer Chip Foose from Overhaulin’  has the exact opposite idea. In a recent video on the Hagerty YouTube channel, Foose turned the original Bronco onto a drop-top hot rod with just a few strokes of the pen.

By the end of the rather relaxing video, Foose has drawn a wildly alternative take on the classic Bronco: a slammed convertible. The results of which is something equally strange and familiar. And that might be because of the colors. Foose says he chose a white body to highlight the simplicity of the Bronco’s design, a move we agree with. And the blue stripes make it look a bit like a boxy 1960’s Shelby Mustang with the roof chopped off. This would be a wild SEMA build, if Foose and company aren’t already intending to build one.

Interestingly, Foose hints on how he and his team would actually make this car a reality. It wouldn’t really be a Ford Bronco at all. Instead, Foose said he would take a Mustang Shelby GT500 or GT350 to form the chassis and engine base. Next, he would put an original or aftermarket Bronco body on the chassis. The design uses the first generation Bronco, built between 1966 to 1977. To fit it, the Mustang chassis would probably need a shortened wheelbase. Certainly, a complicated build.

Foose also demonstrates why he’s cemented his legacy as a famous designer. He manages to create a fantastic sketch in only two drafts, and mainly uses a cheap looking pen. The final product looks like a rendering, only it’s made by pen and paper.

It might not be the way we would want our Ford Bronco, so we can only give a nod to creativity in this case. But maybe you would want a slammed Bronco convertible. If that’s the case, this video is definitely for you.
