For almost as long as there have been cars, people have been strapping superchargers to their engines. Whether it be the Blower Bentleys of yesteryear or the high-power muscle cars of today, we all know that a supercharger means big power. And when it comes to aftermarket kits, few are more respected than Magnuson Superchargers. In order to properly celebrate this year’s virtual SEMA event, the company has just rolled out a new kit for the S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

If there is one thing about the Shelby GT500 that we can all agree on, it is the fact that 760 horsepower is quite a lot. However, there are some buyers who simply will not be able to accept a stock power figure, regardless of what that number is. For those buyers, Magnuson Superchargers and VMP Performance have rolled out their all-new 3.1L supercharger kit for the 2020+ GT500. Like all with all Magnuson kits, the hardware is based on an Eaton supercharger. In this case it’s Eaton’s new TVS R3100 series blower, which is based on the TVS R2650 that the S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 uses from the factory.

In their press release for the new blower, Eaton promises that the TVS R3100 will provide at least 10 percent more airflow than the stock TVS R2650 while retaining it’s high-twist, four-lobe rotor design. More airflow of course means significantly more horsepower and torque, which is always a welcome. The supercharger itself is only 15 percent larger than the outgoing unit, which means that packaging should also remain relatively care-free.

Magnuson Superchargers will launch their new kit for the S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in early 2021, though they have yet to release any pricing information. It will inevitably be a pretty expensive upgrade, but one that will genuinely take the GT500 and its Predator V8 engine up another level. We’ll have to wait and see how it compares to Whipple’s GT500 blower upgrade.
