GMC HUMMER EV RANGE LISTED AT 334 MILES – OFFICIAL EPA RATING STILL AT LARGE

A member of the Hummer Chat Forum, BahamaTodd, posted that when he updated his MyChevrolet app to version 5.7.0, like most people he did some playing around but came up with some information he didn’t expect about the first-ever GMC Hummer EV. As he ventured into the Energy Assist page, he noticed that three electric vehicles had been listed with their estimated range of power when at 100-percent battery life. 

The list included accurate ranges for the the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV (259 miles), the slightly larger 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV (247 miles), and oddly enough, the 9,000-lb Hummer EV electric range at 334 miles with the battery fully charged. The first two listed aren’t really a surprise, but the Hummer EV isn’t even a Chevy, and GMC has its own app. So either this is an elaborate Photoshop ruse, or it was a bug in the software update.

Hummer EV Range Remains Officially Unofficial

The Hummer EV range has yet to be officially announced, but expectations have been that its range would come in at over 350 miles of range. However, this isn’t the first time that electric vehicles have seen their ranges come in below expectations after EPA range testing. Take the Ford Mustang Mach-E, as an example. And the Porsche Taycan EV before it.

Less powerful (aka less power dense) variants that follow the Hummer EV Edition 1 will be the EV3X, EV2X, and EV2. The Hummer EV SUV will launch in the 2024 model year. And because it has a smaller overall length, there’s less room for GM’s new Ultium batteries. Ergo, the Edition 1 variant of the Hummer EV SUV has 200 less horsepower than the truck. Total driving range between charges is likely to be shortened as well.

GMC Hummer EV Production, President Biden Visit

The entire GMC Hummer EV family will be exclusively produced at the former General Motors Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant, which as been rebranded as the GM Factory Zero plant, which will also build other future electric trucks like the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Hummer EV SUV, and upcoming Cadillac Escalade EV.

The GM Factory Zero Plant will be visited this week by various heads of state for its official “grand opening” event (even though it’s been fully tooled and has been building pre-production Hummer EV trucks for over a month now). These heads of state include US President Joe Biden, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and others.
