Whether you are interested in electric vehicles or not, there is no denying the importance of the GMC Hummer EV. It is the first electric pickup truck to be unveiled by an American legacy automaker, and the first EV to come under the GMC brand. Pickup trucks may be one of the most popular types of vehicles in the United States, but they aren’t for everyone. For this reason, GMC has also been working on an electric SUV by way of the Hummer EV SUV. While official details about the new family hauler remain scarce, a new report from the Detroit Free Press has confirmed that it will make its global debut in February.

Like earlier this year, the Hummer EV SUV reveal could be revealed during the 2021 Super Bowl. GMC originally teased the upcoming electric pickup truck with LeBron James during Super Bowl 2020.

According to the publication, dealers within the GMC network have been told by GM brass that the Hummer EV SUV is slated to arrive during the second month of 2021. While we don’t have many details about the SUV at this time, we do happen to know what the new Hummer model will look like. The electric SUV was teased at the Barclays Global Automotive Conference in November, wearing much of the same styling as its pickup partner. The rear is where the obvious change takes place, though even the enclosed passenger compartment shares a uniform design. Expect a row of seats to be added back here once the SUV hits the assembly line.

Speaking of the rear area, early teaser images for the GMC Hummer EV SUV highlighted a full-size spare mounted on the tailgate. This was noticeably absent from the vehicle we saw in November, but that doesn’t mean it won’t come along for the production model. Afterall, this was one of the Hummer H2’s most recognizable features. That said, it is pretty clear that GM is trying to distance the new Hummer models from the previously detested nameplate.

With the Hummer EV SUV slated to make its debut in February, production variants are likely not far behind. That said, we do not have information about how GM will roll out the SUV. Production of the pickup models are slated to begin with the Edition 1 models in the fall, though some trim levels won’t begin construction until well into 2023. If GM doesn’t plan to start building the SUV right away, it could be some time before they hit dealer showrooms.
