Automakers love to draw out the excitement surrounding their upcoming products. Who could forget the show that GM put on before the launch of the C8 Corvette, or the whole rodeo we all went through with the Ford Bronco before its debut. Now though it is FCA who is putting out some new images to draw up some hype, this time relating to the upcoming 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Or it could be the 2022 WL Grand Cherokee. Either way, it promises to be “grand.”
The image in question was shared on Jeep’s media platforms, and shows a picturesque view of the Grand Canyon overlaid with the dictionary definition of the word grand. Below the definition sits a “Coming Soon” tagline, though any view of the upcoming SUV is severely lacking. We can’t say for certain just how long of a wait Jeep has in store, but there are some clues we can use. FCA documents show that the company plans to have the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models in production by the second quarter of 2021, after initially announcing the project over two years ago. With that timeline in place, we expect that Jeep’s new full-size SUV isn’t terribly far from its public debut.

The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are slated to rejoin the Jeep lineup above the current range-topping Grand Cherokee. The full-size SUV is expected to ride on the Ram 1500’s platform, and will likely feature many of the same powertrain options. The Grand Wagoneer is also rumored to carry a hybrid option that provides up to 30 miles of pure EV range, as well as other slick options like a level 3 semi-autonomous driving system.
While it is possible that Jeep is hinting at the upcoming WL Grand Cherokee model, we are more apt to believe that this teaser relates to the Grand Wagoneer. This is because the replacement for the Grand Cherokee isn’t slated to begin production in Q3 of 2021, after the larger models are already in production. Considering how important both products are to FCA, it seems unlikely they would tease the products out of order.
FCA may have been a little coy with this latest teaser from Jeep, but this means that there are only more to come. It is only a matter of time now before we all have a better look at the reborn Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
