American Expedition Vehicles makes some of the highest quality aftermarket accessories and parts for your off-road vehicle, and they’ve just dropped their newest product over Instagram. It’s a vertical rear tire mount, a stylish and space-saving way to hold a spare tire in case you need it on your expedition. We wouldn’t even blame you for getting this AEV vertical tire mount purely based on looks, because it’s great.
The AEV tire mount is made for the Jeep Gladiator, Chevrolet Colorado and heavy duty Ram trucks. On the Colorado, it can fit up to a 37 inch tire, while the Gladiator and Ram bump it up to a 41 inch tire. Retail price is set at $399. It looks to be in a dark painted metal finish, but there could be other color options we don’t currently know about.
A vertical tire mount setup has a major practicality benefit. It doesn’t take up much room in the bed, so you can still fit whatever you need to back there. A flat mount on the bed floor is far less packaging friendly. That being said, it does rob a good portion of your rearward visibility. Drive this, and you’ll be relying on door mirrors. Gladiator owners may not want to take their doors off if they’re driving on the road with this mount.
AEV says they’ll have more information on the vertical tire mount next week, so watch this space for additional details. No matter what we find out, we can be sure the mount will have great quality with AEV’s stellar reputation. It’s so great that GM actually sources them out to build the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, an even more extreme version of the rather extreme ZR2. This mount would be perfect on the back of that truck, or any of the compatible vehicles.
