Driving a vehicle that is geared towards off-roading is an experience unlike that of a normal car. The feeling of being able to go anywhere, regardless of the terrain or obstacles that lay ahead, is tough to beat. Automakers themselves have been pumping out some of the most capable off-road machines on the roads today, with models like the Ford Raptor, the Ram Power Wagon, and the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. Fans of the bowtie-wearing model are likely familiar with the work of overlanding specialists American Expedition Vehicles, who helped to upfit the midsize truck’s Bison trim for when the pavement ends.

Just this week, AEV opened up the order books for the HighMark Fenders as a standalone accessory for Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and Bison model owners, priced at $1,350 for a set of four. A set of two for either the front or rear runs $675. However, they’re already sold out for the time being.

The announcement came from AEV over the weekend, where the company noted that their supply of HighMark fenders was limited. This of course is a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and its disruptive effect on the global supply chain, but AEV tells us that they’d rather offer what’s available than waiting for the world to get back online.

Even a company that produces some of the best bug-out vehicles for a post-pandemic world can’t escape the interconnected ways of our economy. Nonetheless, that limited supply didn’t last long, as AEV’s stock has already been entirely spoken for.

As disappointing as that may be for those hoping to add some added flair to their off-roading Chevrolet, we aren’t surprised they didn’t last long. The rugged and boxy HighMark Fenders are one of the coolest styling cues that AEV brings to the table with their own ZR2 Bison Package, not to be confused with the GM model. For an additional $11,949, AEV will turn the factory Bison into a truly capable off-roader, featuring added underbody shielding, AEV bumpers and fenders, and a 4.10 differential gear upgrade among other tweaks. For non-Bison ZR2 trucks, a similar AEV Colorado ZR2 package, is available for $12,999.00.

The HighMark Fender package from AEV allows for improved clearance meant to fit a 35-inch tire, without the need for a lift. This allows customers to maintain full advantage of the Colorado ZR2’s extremely capable and incredibly well-engineered OEM suspension system, while also maintaining a lower center of gravity with all the floatation and ground clearance of a larger tire.

While the current stock may be sold out, we are glad to see the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and ZR2 Bison HighMark Fenders by AEV on the market. The fenders help to make the Colorado look as capable as it truly is, especially when equipped with some AEV upgrades.
